WORKING TOGETHER
HOW TO PLAN FOR YOUR DAY AND WHAT TO EXPECTNEWBORN & BABY PHOTOGRAPHY
I love capturing the enchanting innocence of newborns with beautiful photographs. During our session together, I want you to have the wonderful experience you deserve as a new parent, so I’ve put together a few suggestions to help you prepare for your and your little one’s photo session.
When choosing the right clothing, gentle colours, knit fabrics, and pieces without patterns work best. Soft greys, earthy colours, and light pastels and blues always look beautiful. Don’t forget plain cloth nappies, plain nappy covers for older babies, and linen wraps.
If you have a blanket or piece of clothing you’d like to include in the photos — perhaps a sentimental item or a gift from a loved one — bring it along. Bring plenty of options, and we’ll choose the best.
When choosing clothing for yourself, opt for simple styles, minimal embellishments, and soft colours such as pastels, creams, and off-whites. Avoid patterns and heavily branded clothing. I recommend bringing a few options in case of little accidents. If you have any questions about personal styling and preparation, I’m happy to answer them.
The sample images below of babies, kids and families show how softer colours allow you to focus on the expression without distraction.
NEWBORN
For our natural style of newborn photography we often photograph babies unclothed, in a plain cloth nappy or linen wrap.

YOUR SPECIAL DAY
Your newborn photo session may take up to three hours, which can include photography as well as feeding, nappy changing, and a sweet slumber or two. Older babies may require less time.
If you’d like to bring grandparents or other family members to the photo session, they are more than welcome.
I often photograph newborns over your arms, your shoulder, or with their little head in your hands instead of using props or baskets. Please keep this in mind when preparing for the photo shoot — do your best with grooming, hair, and nails, and if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.
We’ll have plenty of opportunities to capture heartwarming photographs of your angel during our session. I want you to feel completely at ease — this is about celebrating your most precious creation.
I keep the studio cosy and warm to help your baby feel comfortable. And, if you want to nurse or need a space for changing, I have a private area set aside with all the comforts of home.
Once done, you’ll have a beautiful photography collection that’s personal to you and your baby. I can’t wait to meet you and your family. Contact me today to book a photo session.
FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY PLANNING FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY
Experience relaxed and enjoyable moments as I tell your story through photos you will cherish. The photo session will be tailored to suit your family and your preferred style, whether you desire formal, casual, or anything else. We’ll create something that perfectly expresses your family.
You’re welcome to bring a variety of clothing options, although, avoid patterns, logos, and heavily branded pieces. I suggest carefully coordinating colours for a group photo. Soft colours blend better than bold, primary colours.
Most family sessions last between 1-2 hours. Sometimes there may only be a window of 30-40 minutes to capture an active toddler at their best so timing is really important.
Choose a time for your session when your kids are at their best. Are they usually playful and their natural selves after school or after sport? A little planning makes all the difference. Weekend appointments are available, too.
We’ll have a second appointment one to three weeks after your first session so you can choose the photos you love. If you are travelling from outside of Sydney and need to book your viewing appointment for the same day, let me know before you book.
I look forward to working together on your family portrait. Book your appointment or reach out if you have questions.
CHOOSING YOUR PHOTOS
I generally spend a couple of hours before your appointment, creating an inspired collection of your photos, this makes the process of choosing your favouites easier and more enjoyable for you. It’s really important that all interested parties and desicion-makers are present. Consider a babysitter to look after the little ones so you can relax and enjoy choosing your photos.
The viewing software makes choosing your favourites simple and fun. Images can be viewed in colour or black and white. I can also display them as a series to be framed or group images together to create an album story.
One of the benifits of choosing your photos on a different day to your photo session is that you have some time to consider how you might like to display the photos in your home. What is the ideal size for a framed family photo in your home? Perhaps you would prefer a family album for the coffee table. Make some notes and bring measurements in with you. I offer a full design consultation during your viewing to help you create bespoke pieces of personalised art.
Please allow from one to two and a half hours for viewing and ordering prints from your family shoot. There is only one appointment available to select and order your photos and orders are finalised on the day. Viewings are not available to be spread out over multiple days. Unordered images are deemed unwanted and will be deleted.
On line galleries are only available for overseas and interstate clients who have returned home after their session.
Image Technique Photography source only the finest locally made albums, frames, canvas prints and acrylics. Archival quality materials will ensure that when cared for your photos will last a lifetime.

BOOKING YOUR APPOINTMENT AND RESCHEDULING FOR FAMILY AND BABY PORTRAIT SESSIONS
A deposit is required to book an appointment, it will be used towards your package. This can be organised over the phone with a credit card or if you prefer via EFT banking.
I understand that with kids of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, things don’t always go as planned. If you need to come a little earlier or you’re running late, simply call or text to let me know.
If you need to reschedule, I do require 24 hours’ notice for weekday appointments and 72 hours for weekend appointments. That being said, if you have an emergency, I understand. Simply call as soon as you can to discuss rescheduling.
FAQ
How many photos will you take during my session?
I always take plenty of photos so you can choose the best, natural looking images. The larger the group the more I will take. I always check in with you before the session to get an indication of whether you are looking for a few images or a collection of different combinations, to make sure I capture everything you want. It’s not unusual for me to capture from one to two hundred images during a newborn or family session. I carefully edit these to show you only the best during the design consultation when you choose your favourites.
How long will my session last?
It depends on who I am photographing. A newborn session may take from two to three hours. Babies from six months to one year usually take less time to photograph than newborns. A toddler’s attention span may only last thirty minutes. I’m experienced with all ages and if needed will pick up the pace to suit the situation. My promise is you won’t feel hurried, kids will have time to settle and I won’t stop until I’ve taken the best I can.
A business head shot is usually done and dusted in under an hour.
How many photos can I purchase?
As many or as few as you would like to. The packages are flexible and you can add as many photos, framed prints, canvas prints, acrylic blocks or any other products as you like. Images not purchased are deleted from our drives.
I have a gift voucher, can I change what is included on the voucher?
Yes, you can use your voucher as credit towards a better package, larger photos or framed prints.
Are digital files included?
If you are choosing prints, frames, canvases & albums and you would like to be able to share your photos on your devices or social media platforms, web resolution files are available. They are complinentary with framed prints ordered in the Deluxe Packages, albums or canvas prints. These files are not printable and have a small discreet watermark at the bottom corner. For orders of unframed prints & the Gift Package, the prices vary depending on the size and quantity of photos ordered.
Digital files are not sold individually for family photography. Low res “soft copies” of photos that are not ordered as prints are not available at a reduced cost.
If you would like to print your own photos, choose one of our high res digital packages available on our packages page. Digital and print packages can be combined – you can have a mixture of both. Unwatermarked high res digitals are included in digital packages.
Corporate, personal branding shoots and business shoots include the supply of high res unwatermarked files without prints. See our Corporate Page for packages.
Do you airbrush the photos?
I try to produce portraits that look as natural as possible with minimal manipulation. State of the art lighting techniques help to show you at your best without the need for too much post production. Airbrushing, retouching and manipulation is available on request. Minor blemish removal such as a scratch on a toddlers face is included free of charge. More complex and detailed manipulation is available by quotation. If you have already made a booking and a skin blemish has appeared that is of concern you are welcome to call. In most cases I can find a simple solution.
Can I choose my photos on the day of the session?
For corporate and business shoots yes. In most cases for family and baby sessions I will need some time to download and edit your photos so a second appointment on a different day is recommended. Often babies and kids need a nap or a change of activity so a viewing after a photo session doesn’t always work out. If you have traveled a long way or are visiting from overseas you may need to order on the same day as your session. If this is the case please let me know before you book so I can set the time aside to schedule a viewing, we have some great cafe’s and restaurants nearby and may be able to have your images ready while you have a lunch break.
When will my order be ready?
Unframed prints are generally ready for collection within one to two weeks. Frames and canvas products are usually ready in three to four weeks. I personally check every single item, a very strict quality control benchmark means I may need a little time to supply you with beautiful photos to keep for life. If you need something in a hurry let me know and I will do my best.
If you would like to know more about packages, sessions and options please feel free to get in touch. I am most happy to provide you with as much information as possible.
